SBBE students’ industrial classes in petroleum company

The 3rd intake SBBE students had the opportunity to visit the Orlen company, the biggest petroleum industry in Poland. The students’ tour was guided by the Nijhuis company team that specialize in wastewater treatment and energy recovery. Orlen’s plant manages three distinct wastewater streams: glycol, biodiesel, and crude oil refined water. Each requires specialized processes to handle different pollutants. Trekking in Polish mountains

On 12th and 13th October, students from the 3rd cohort of the SBBE master programme had an absolutely amazing time hiking through Sudety Mountains! This was a wonderful activity that formed part of a sports class run by the lovely Karolina Piròg from WUST. Two days adventure began bright and early at Wroclaw Glowny train station, where the students boarded a train to Szklarska Poręba Górna. Meeting with the Invited Scholar dr Waldemar Krawczyk

Students from the 3rd intake of the Erasmus Mundus programme in Sustainable Biomass and Bioproducts Engineering took part in a series of lectures on the analysis of psychoactive substances in biomass of plant origin, led by Dr. Waldemar Krawczyk, former director of the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Polish Police. Advanced Research Techniques at Nanores Laboratory

Nanores Laboratory organized a specialized training course for SBBE students. The training provided them an opportunity to be familiarized with the following instrumental methods: scanning electron microscopy (SEM), environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and focused ion beam (FIB) technology. The research was conducted using Helios NanoLab 600i, Helios 5 CXe PFIB, and Quanta 3D 200i microscopes. Graduation Ceremony 2024

The first cohort of SBBE students graduated after successfully defending their theses before an international committee composed of professors from the three Partner Institutions, along with external observers from international organizations and industry. The SBBE graduation ceremony was held in a historic lecture hall at the Faculty of Chemistry at WUST, with some students’ parents in attendance, having traveled from distant countries to join the occasion.

SBBE Inauguration Ceremony during Invitation Week 2024

The 3rd cohort of students was welcomed at WUST by the Vice Rector, Prof. Kamil Staniec. Welcoming remarks were also given by the SBBE Project Officer from the European Education and Culture Executive Agency in Brussels. The Project Coordinator, Prof. Jolanta Warchoł, along with the Deans from the partner institutions (LUT, UCLM, and WUST), delivered encouraging speeches to the students. The ceremony was also attended by representatives from industry and international organizations.
