Beginning of the semester in Spain

The third cohort just started their second semester within the SBBE programme. They left Poland at the end of January to now continue their education at UCLM in Spain.At the official reception students were welcomed by the Vice Rector and the Dean of Faculty of Chemistry. Safety and security classes in PCC Rokita

The SBBE 3rd cohort’s students visited PCC Rokita – chemical company that produces among others chlorine, oxygen, propylene, ethylene oxides and hydrogen for additives, polymer applications, etc. The company has a robust safety system to minimize the risk of industrial accidents and fatalities. The plant site is demarcated into various danger zones monitored by a wide net of detectors. The safety department provides workshops for employees and visitors regarding safety protocols, including wearing Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment. Weekend sports classes 

On Saturday, January 18th, the students of the third cohort attended an ice skating session at Hala Orbita. This event provided a valuable fun experience, as many of the students had never previously engaged in ice skating.Additionally, next day they had an opportunity to stretch during yoga classes.

Polish dumplings culinary workshop

The 3rd cohort students explored one of the essential aspects of the Polish culture: its cuisine, particularly the iconic pierogi. The culinary workshop at Browar Mieszczański studio provided an opportunity to learn how to make three distinct types of ‘pierogi’: pierogi with ‘polish’ cream cheese and potatoes, pierogi with buckwheat groats and feta cheese served with mushroom sauce, and pierogi with plums and cream served as a dessert.The workshop was a delightful blend of hands-on learning and cultural immersion. Educational visit in the Roztocze National Park, a stunning area known for its diverse landscapes, rich biodiversity, and commitment to environmental preservation. The park features lush forests, rolling hills, and unique geological formations, providing a perfect backdrop for exploring sustainable practices in natural resource management. SBBE students’ industrial classes in petroleum company

The 3rd intake SBBE students had the opportunity to visit the Orlen company, the biggest petroleum industry in Poland. The students’ tour was guided by the Nijhuis company team that specialize in wastewater treatment and energy recovery. Orlen’s plant manages three distinct wastewater streams: glycol, biodiesel, and crude oil refined water. Each requires specialized processes to handle different pollutants. Trekking in Polish mountains

On 12th and 13th October, students from the 3rd cohort of the SBBE master programme had an absolutely amazing time hiking through Sudety Mountains! This was a wonderful activity that formed part of a sports class run by the lovely Karolina Piròg from WUST. Two days adventure began bright and early at Wroclaw Glowny train station, where the students boarded a train to Szklarska Poręba Górna. As soon as they stepped outside the station, they were greeted by breathtaking views!

Meeting with the Invited Scholar dr Waldemar Krawczyk

Students from the 3rd intake of the Erasmus Mundus programme in Sustainable Biomass and Bioproducts Engineering took part in a series of lectures on the analysis of psychoactive substances in biomass of plant origin, led by Dr. Waldemar Krawczyk, former director of the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Polish Police.
