Meeting with the Invited Scholar dr Waldemar Krawczyk
Students from the 3rd intake of the Erasmus Mundus programme in Sustainable Biomass and Bioproducts Engineering took part in a series of lectures on the analysis of psychoactive substances in biomass of plant origin, led by Dr. Waldemar Krawczyk, former director of the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Polish Police. During these sessions, the students learnt about the production methods of some of the best-known natural and semi-synthetic drugs, such as cannabis, cocaine, and heroin. In addition, the students analysed global consumption and production statistics, as well as the environmental impacts associated with these substances. On the final day, the students participated in practical activities using various kits for detecting and analysing psychoactive substances and analysed samples using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). This training course provided students with essential practical skills in substance analysis, enhancing their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. It also contributed significantly to their academic growth within the master’s programme.
