MASTER THESIS OF SBBE STUDENTS ARE RUNNING AT UCLM. It has been a busy week of reencounter and planning but now supervisors and students are working hard to get the best research results.

LUT University operates on four campuses in southern Finland. SBBE made a tour to visit the laboratories in Mikkeli and Lappeenranta. The algae lab in Mikkeli was kind enough to welcome us with liquids in all shades of green – the colors of the SBBE program! Finland is a country of contrasts. While staying in Lahti, SBBE students have enjoyed temperatures from +90 oC in the sauna, and +4 oC in the ice swimming pond, down to -30 oC on

The 2nd intake students had the Safety and Security classes in PCC Rokita served by the staff of company and by industrial fire brigade unit. They familiarized with related arrangements in big chemical industry, security and surveillance systems, and risk analysis in chemical processes. Exercises for rescue services was done in a smoke chamber training simulator with limited visibility, including sound and visual effects.

The SBBE students familiarized with the potable water treatment technology in Wroclaw. The technology combines surface water (intake from river) pretreatment in infiltration ponds with conventional treatment involving rapid filtration through sand filters, aeration and further sorption on Active Carbon, and final water disinfection.

The SBBE students familiarized with the technology of the wastewater treatment for social sewage, rainwater, and sewage arise from the production of biodiesel, glycerin and biogas. The technology combines the initial cleaning process by coagulation and flotation with anaerobic digestion process and solid particles separation.
